Are We Connected or Just Caged? A Requiem for Real Conversation

We carry the entire repository of human knowledge in our pockets, yet we seem to be getting dumber. Or at least, less curious. Our feeds are curated, our opinions echo-chambered, and a quick "fact check" is more about reinforcing our biases than seeking truth.

The internet promised a library of Alexandria, but delivered a public bathroom wall, scrawled with fleeting thoughts, angry declarations, and memes that die in a week. We've traded deep conversation for quick comments, nuanced debate for tribal name-calling. The platforms designed to connect us have, in effect, constructed invisible cages.

The Tyranny of the Feed

We live under the tyranny of the feed. Infinite scrolling, constant updates, relentless notifications, endless streams of opinions that demand instant reaction. Our attention is a precious resource, yet we give it away freely to algorithms designed to trap it. In the process, we sacrifice the capacity to sit with a friend, to engage in dialogue that meanders, digresses, and returns enriched.

A Requiem for Real Conversation

This is a requiem, then, not for technology, but for the art of being present with another human being. For the lost skill of listening without preparing a response, of speaking without performing, of engaging without filtering through the lens of virality or approval.
