Faithful, but Failing

You don’t cheat, congratulations. You kept your hands to yourself, but did you keep your heart open? You stayed, but did you show up? Love is not a courtroom where fidelity is your only defense.

Faithful, but Failing

By MoAfrika Skotch Ntilane — 10 May 2025

You don’t cheat, congratulations. You kept your hands to yourself, but did you keep your heart open? You stayed, but did you show up? You were present, but did you participate? Because love is not a courtroom where fidelity is your only defense. You think not stepping out makes you step up? No. You can be faithful and still be a storm your partner has to survive.

The Myth of “At Least I’m Faithful”

There’s a generation of people who measure their relationships by what they didn’t do wrong instead of what they actively did right. They think absence of betrayal equals presence of love. But those two things are not the same.

Not cheating is not the same as being emotionally safe. Silence can be as cruel as infidelity. Neglect can cut deeper than lies. Emotional unavailability can starve a person faster than distance ever could. You can stay in the same house and still be gone.

Love as Participation

Love requires participation. Real, uncomfortable, vulnerable participation. It’s work. It’s listening when you’d rather be scrolling. It’s forgiving before you feel like it. It’s showing up to the argument not to win, but to understand. It’s admitting when you’re emotionally tired and still choosing to be gentle.

Because love without participation is just polite decay... and faithfulness without love is failure disguised as virtue.
