I Am Leaving SA, as soon as i can afford it

By MoAfrika Skotch Ntilane — 29 August 2025

I see the posts, the memes, the whispered conversations at the braai. The ones about Australia, Canada, the UK, or even Portugal. People talk about "going to find greener pastures," and it sounds so polite, so neatly packaged. But behind the polite smiles and the emigration consultants, there's a raw, gut-wrenching truth: we're not just leaving. We're running. We're running from a love affair that has soured into a toxic, abusive relationship.

The Celebrity of Nothing

We are a society that worships groove, vibes, and immorality, a culture where the least deserving are given the most prominent platforms. The loudest, the most outrageous, the most morally bankrupt... these are the new influencers, the new role models. They provide nothing of value, create no lasting legacy, and their only skill is to be loud and immoral. Meanwhile, the builders, the thinkers, the quiet geniuses... they work in the shadows, their contributions ignored or worse, stolen.

And then there's the corruption, the cancer eating away at the bones of this country. Every time you open a newspaper, it's another scandal, another billion Rand gone into the pockets of the powerful, another promise broken.

The Unapologetic Truth

This isn't a post about hate. It’s a post about love, the kind of love that forces you to walk away from a toxic relationship because you know you deserve better. It's the kind of love that tells you that your life, your potential, and your future are not worth sacrificing for a past that refuses to heal itself.

This is not an end. It's a new beginning, a fight for my own legacy. And this time, I'm taking the wheel.
